Here is my latest workflow tutorial for the Canon 5dmkII, commissioned by the Canon Professional network.
How to convert Canon 5dmk2 footage from 30p to 24p
UPDATE: Here is my latest workflow
A tutorial using Final Cut Studio 2 on how to convert footage shot in 30p to perfect 24p…Used in the short Sofia’s Peoplehttp://philipbloom.co.uk/films/35mm-films/sofias-people-canon-5d-mk2/ Thanks to Denver Riddle for his original workflow post on cinema5d.com
I don’t have any workflow ideas for non final cut I am afraid. I am sure someone can point you in the right direction.
There are many quicker ways of converting footage to 24p but this by far and away the most impressive for the best looking end results.
Alter these settings to 25p if you want PAL, but for NTSC keep at 23.98. If you are lucky enough to just want film out then alter to dead on 24p. Makes your head spin all this!
Here is the video tutorial below. Please do check out the resulting new 24p version of “Sofia’s People” here.
Part 1: Importing and Conversion
In Part 1, I show you how to convert your native H264 footage into something you can edit with.
Part 2 coming soon and deals with changing frame rates.
This tutorial is for Final Cut Studio 2 users. If you are using a MAC and do not have Final Cut Pro installed the codecs will not be available to you. Use something equivalent like DVCPROHd.

Part 2: Syncing Audio and Video with FCP and Pluraleyes
When recording sync sound with the 5d you really should use a separate recorder like the Zoom H4n. But then you need to sync the sound in post. A slow and annoying procedure. Pluraleyes from www.singularsoftware.com does it all for you automatically.
You don’t need to use a clapperboard or ident or even a sync clap. Just make sure the 5dmk2 is recording audio so it has something to match up to. Best to use a separate mic like the Rode Shotgun to make sure you get the best quality audio for Pluraleyes to use to math up.
Watch this video and see just how easy it is to sync sound with the 5d and separate sound.
