Sunny, beautiful Golden Hour.
Great martinis, say hi next time you’re here, warm up after Skywalker? :^)
Stumbled across you with 3 Minutes.
Love your music selections in addition to your considerable visual skills.
You and I seem to enjoy many of the same films (the Fall, Koyaanisqatsi) and even use some of the same music (Ludwig’s 7th, Holst. Have you used your other fellow countryman, Walton?).
Thanks for sharing so much with so many.
cheers!

Found you in Vimeo…probably almost a year ago already (?). When that short film at the train station came out. Was hooked after Sofia’s People (which I still consider your best from the People’s series).
We chatted a bit after the sunday afternoon session when you were at Stockholm Fotomässan

November 21, 2009 at 19:29Orlando, FL. Just this year I found my love for film making by way of video demand for my website. I found this site while searching for EX1 reviews. My favorite parts of the site are the equipment reviews, for their thoroughness, and the witty posts that keep me entertained. Philip, you played a large part in the reason why I decided to purchase the EX1, Zacuto newsman rig and now possibly a 7D.
I had the chance to meet Philip back in September, and for those that haven’t met Philip, I can say that he is just as you would imagine him to be, kind, passionate about film making and hilarious. Philip, you are truly and inspiration and I wish you the best of luck in all that you do.
p.s. I can’t wait to get my hands on the 7D DVD so I can figure out how the heck to use the camera.

November 21, 2009 at 18:00Hi Mr. Bloom,
Mark and I are from Cadillac, Michigan. U.S.A.
Mark was born in Blackpool, U.K.
He follows your every move! We purchase nothing until he (now I) consults with your site first. We just purchased the Canon 7d. Using it regular on video shoots. We have a small video production company. However, small we may be but we have a very impressive client list. Mark’s been in the business for over 25 years so he’s pretty good at his craft.
Check out an example of our work at, http://www.interlochen.org/media/video-camp-2009-highlights
We would love for you to make your way to Interlochen as a guest speaker!
Let’s talk about that if you’d be interested.
Do you still shoot with the Letus?
Calm Sea’s,
Ang

July 1, 2009 at 15:36I know you don’t like the HPX172EN and love the EX3. I like both and can only buy one. Got the former and because of you, I got the 5Dmk2 with ‘Zeiss of the East’ OM Zuiko 50mm F1.8. All I need now is for you to stop haunting my head with your DS-20 Miller review..’that the tree…thats the river’ Never stopped me from laughing that one. You’re my rector

June 30, 2009 at 04:54Phil,
Always a pleasure to see what you’re up to. I just got back from a shoot from Hell. 9 days working for a producer who had no script, no talent and no idea of what she or her client wanted or needed. (It changed from day to day/ hour to hour. Oh, and no idea that it is a little difficult to get a six f-stop range of light in a single shot. What I did get was footage to spruce up and update my website which has been dormant for the past 3 years. I shot with both EX-1 and Canon 5D Mk II. The new firmware on the Canon made it a little nicer to use. I was using an old 35-350 (too old to be IS) but the images and the short DOF between 200 – 350mm were quite nice. (Pretty distorted on the short end though). Strangely, my really old Sigma 14 worked really for wide and close-up. While I loved the images, I still felt it lacking as a production tool. Maybe Scarlet or Epic will fill the void. Send an email when you’re next heading towards LA, there’s always a spare room and good food.
