  • Wow… great work. I’m surprised that even the homeless leave their shoes off outside their homes. I’d be afraid to wake up without mine. :/

  • Philip,

Do you sell your films on dvd?

    -David Rorie

    • not at moment!

  • I don’t know if you’re familiar with the movie Lost in Translation. Funny thing, the same song is used when Scarlett Johansson’s character went to Kyoto. The scene was mostly a train sequence followed by visiting historical landmarks in Kyoto. But as always awesome shots, love the music, keep at it :) .

  • Philip – Loved it. I’ve only been there once, so far, to see my cousin get married at the Meiji Shrine. You might’ve been to the same place… about 2 minutes in looks very familiar.

  • I found this funny video site with 2 original video’s up here are the teaser

” How to ruin somebodies wedding in 10 easy steeps”

” 10 Things you don’t want to do on your first date”

Check it out link is in my signature.

  • [...] A whole lot of Tokyo is represented in the 6 minute short, many of the different Wards of Tokyo, the trains, the city at night, parks, festivals, family life and even the homeless . A must watch not only for fans of Japan. Looks like a video camera will be a must for me when I eventually land in Tokyo, I just have to stay focused and stick my goals. Watch Alone in Tokyo. [...]

  • As always… entertaining and diesel… Great Job

  • I’m glad to discover Tokio through your eyes!

  • Your film is a wonderful portrayal of a very lonely city. I’m glad you chose to highlight the homeless, who are largely ignored in Japan.

I was living in Matsusaka a couple of years ago when a homeless man froze to death in front of Nagoya’s main station. It took three days and tens of thousands of passers-by before somebody noticed he wasn’t moving.

I wonder how the nation will fare as its people grow older.

  • Having just recently returned from a trip to Japan it was so wonderful to see it captured so well with this video.

My head still feels like its in Asia, but my body is back in San Diego!

It’s a shame the homeless are often disregarded or invisible to people carrying on with their busy lives.

Do you know if there’s any help for the homeless in Tokyo?

    Rich

    • sorry i don’t know. But thanks for comments!

  • That is an amazing video and you’ve caught some very different sides of the city along the way. Fantastic work. I wish I had that creativity!

  • Okay, I know Sony footage when I see it. But, how were you able to pull off those time lapse pans? Did you just repeat the tripod settings as close as you could and match them in post? Did you have a level and measuring tape? Confess Phil…confess!!!

  • Nice job you have, Philip!!

  • Bloody brilliant.

  • Man , I just would like to say thank you for this movie. I’m in Japan right now and this video express perfectly the spirit and the ambiance of Japan life.I know now how to share my trip here. Thank you very much.

  • I want to do stuff like this and I am wondering legally how you were able to accomplish all of these shots?? I know that here in California (Im sure everywhere in US) You need a license to shoot and if you get a shot of a defined face you need to have them waivered? i am pretty new into the Film World. But this is a big question I have… If you could e-mail me or something that would be awesome. Thanks -Nick

  • You are a very talented individual, but you knew that already. you make me sick :) I love this short, its amazing, Im off to japan in Jan for 6 months, my mum is going to visit. I will have to show her this,

We stood in the same spot you did @3:00 for the timelapse in Omotesando, deciding where to go next, we went to the condom shop over the road..
