Just got back from it and had such a blast. Loads of people turned up, well over a hundred and I loved that nobody really cared about us being there. That’s Venice Beach for you….
Met so many great people as well as some old friends like 24 DP Rodney Charters, the Jag boys, David Aldirch, Brian R and loads more. Read more
I was contacted last night by a company called Noktor who are going to loan me their new 50mm F 0.95 lens for the micro four thirds system for a couple of weeks. I have no idea how much it will cost but as soon as it get it I will stick on my Lumix GF1 as I don’t have my GH1 with me and take some video and stills. SUPER FAST!!
I was lucky enough to shoot with the Leica M9 and the 0.95 50mm lens the other day. I want one, but my god that is expensive! Let’s see how much this one goes for!
I will be back in the USA tomorrow, for about 7 weeks. Starting in Northern California with Lucasfilm at Skywalker Ranch again then down to LA at the start of March, then over to Austin for South by South West Film Festival then back to Skywalker again. Phew.
Jarrard Cole, a friend of my buddie Joe Stunzi wrote me a really great email about a very important cause. I wanted to share this email with you and hope as many as you as possible can help out…
This shows how filmmaking can make a real difference to some people. It will only take a few minutes of your time to read this and if you feel the cause is worthy a free vote for it will make an enormous difference. Thanks so much.
I just wanted to write a quick blog as we tick into Christmas Day over here in England. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday or if you are working…sorry…that was me last year!
It’s been a hell of year. Much has happened and the readership of my website/blog has soared, especially tied in with the HD-DSLR revolution. The site workload has gone up enormously so If I haven’t replied to an email you have sent me, please persist and send again. They get a bit lost in backlog and you tend to get replied to if i happen to have my blackberry in my hand at the time!
Use this free time to shoot if you can and I hope you get a nice new lens, camera or some other cool bit of gear! I have got my dad the very cool Canon 500D (Rebel Ti1) to get him back into photography and he may even end up using it for video…but I doubt it. It’s OK…am not ruining surprise, he doesn’t read my blog!
Thanks to everyone who has been a big help to me this year. Den Lennie, Steve Weiss, Sara Collaton, Rick McCallum, Mike Blanchard, Dave Beck, my family and friends and so many more than I couldn’t possibly mention them all, especially my new internet buddies through Twitter, most of whom I haven’t met but consider them friends.
Have a great Christmas and speak soon! I just want to leave you with the short film you have already seen am sure, but it’s the most Christmassy short film I have made!
I finally got my hands on a pre-production Canon 1Dmkiv this weekend. I could have had one about 3 weeks ago but it clashed when I was in the US unfortunately. So I scheduled it for this weekend and took up the offer of director Albert Hughes (of The Hughes Brothers) to come visit him in Prague. A great place to test out the new camera and it’s almost legendary low light capabilities.

Congrats to Mandip Sandhu who was the 4,000,000 person to hit refresh on my site last week . He won a 7D download video. Going to have to try and get something really special for the 5,000,000!
I am really sorry if I haven’t responded to your comment on my site, email, vimeo etc…got such a backlog but I promise to catch up!!
My friend Jon Connor started this website/ blog recently and gradually as the content grows it is becoming another independent resource for information and opinions. Jon is a new owner of a Canon 7D and is sharing his experiences with it as he discovers a new love of photography and video. Along with his better half Cristina Valdivieso he is doing some really great work.
He asked me to pick some movies that inspire me for an article on his blog. I picked “Moon”, “Colin” and “The Fall”.
New announcements over at Reduser.net about the updated specs of the Scarlet. Love to get my hands on these. We can expect the 2/3″ versions May-June 2010. Scarlet S35- Summer 2010. Hurry up Summer 2010!!
There are other new announcements. The new 2/3″ mini primes look terrific are priced realistically (although would love a super wide…6mm isn’t super wide in 2/3″ terms). There is a new super duper EVF, but is not cheap. It has it’s own heater apparently.
It’s easy to fall into a negative reaction when all we get is new enhancements to cameras that have been constantly delayed. I want to stay positive and believe these, when they come out, will be worth the wait. It’s just am very impatient and will probably have a 1DmKIV by then, and if they keep delaying maybe even a 5dmKIII!!!
I love all these photos of sexy gear. Have no idea how they will work ergonomically and would LOVE them to publish a photo of someone actually holding one like a camera! Not super interested in the 2/3″ ones to be honest. It’s the S35 ones that I am really excited about.
EDIT: It’s interesting how the comments section has become a debate as to the viability of VDSLRs as tools and how Scarlet will be much better. Of course it will! It just hasn’t come out yet! Tech is a like a religion to some it seems. Me, I just go with the best tool available at the time. Always have, always will.
So will Scarlet kill off the VDSLR revolution. Personally I don’t see it. VDSLRs will just get better and Scarlet is higher end. Why can’t the two co-exist happily?
