Canon 5dmkII firmware that finally gives it 25p and 24p!! Can it be true?!

Not till first half of next year but this is great news!! From Canon in Australia via FXGUIDE. This is turning into a hell of a week!!

Great news.
Just got out of surgery yesterday, When i read this I almost burst my stitches.
I was about to dump the 5d 2 and start saving for the Mark 1V.
The wife is happy aswell, Means I won’t have to find another 2/3 grand for a mark 4 camera.
Now with this and magic lantern we can stop complaining and get down to some serious film making.

Phillip, have you got any Z finder 2s lying around for sale.The hoodman 3 is not cutting it for me.

Guys just wait for RED scarlet… excuse me for saying this but you’ll be slapping yourself in the face for buying a 5d or 7d after Red releases Scarlet… they genuinely want to make high end camera’s affordable, Check them out here http://camerarentalz.com/ and here http://www.red.com/ I don’t work for them I’m just another struggling artist….thank me later when you get it .

I’ve been looking around the web every day the last couple of weeks, crossing my fingers and hoping to find just that…! That really is great news…

Should I wait? What if this update doesn’t work? is that even possible?

They say they will add 24/25p what about 60, if they go that far why not at 60!!!? They didn’t say they would but would they???

Hi Everyone,

I was literally about to hit the checkout button on the 7D, this feels like a dream, what are your thoughts on believing everything will work out with the firmware update, buying now and hoping or buying once you see it?

And what about 60p I wonder???

Is there any reason to wait??

I just ordered a 7D three days ago!

Major decision time now. What does everyone think? Send the 7D back? Maybe keep it and sell it for a 5D when the firmware comes out? I’m in the US too so the 5Dmkii is almost $1,000 more than my 7D will be.

Well…they will sell like hot cakes or now but not for too long… Sony, canon and others know very well that soon there is a competitor that will release a monster of a camera for dirt cheap prices (from 1500 pounds) that will change the DSLR and semi/pro Camcorder industry as we know it… and nothing Sony or canon can do to change that, and I like to add that its about bloody time as the film maker and photographer has been treated like **** for so long.. Canon wouldn’t even put us out of our misery with a small firmware for loyal customers until they realized now they could lose so much profit… it’s all about profit which isn’t a crime but the crime is to give us a loli pop for $100 then to find out it’s half missing.. let the struggling creative people have access to kit that should not cost 7 or 8 month of slaving away in some restaurant!!!

How will 24p effect working with the H4n? I know currently with the 5DII and it’s 30p that you have to slow the audio down to 99.9% in post, but what if in the future we are filming at 24p on our 5DII’s and recording w/ an H4n? Any insights?

  you only slow audio down when you edit the 5ds dead on 30p on a 29.97 timeline. if your timeline is exactly the same as your footage, whatever frame frate that it, then the zoom will sync just fine. It does not use timecode and therefore is frame rate agnostic. it just records in seconds, minutes and hours.

    so I’m confused. Why don’t people just edit on a “dead on 30p” timeline instead of slowing the audio down? Or is that not possible?

      it is totally possible and if your footage is all 5dmkII then that is what you do! As long as your NLE has that setting. Final Cut Pro lets you edit dead on 30p.

Geezam crow, you just made my day… scratch that… year! I just bought my 5D two weeks ago, fulling expecting Canon NOT to release the firmware update for 24p, but still too in love with the full frame goodness to buy the 7D. I had resigned myself to life in 30p, but still held out secret hope of this. Man I am giddy. Thanks for the news!

Apparently the 1d has a lot less skew / rolling shutter – hopefully this firmware may improve the 5d’s…

if so, gunna make my decision that much harder… see what RED has to say on the 30th though…
